Basic Training

CHAPTER ONE: the basics--- We will not be going over beginner basics at length. If you don’t know what the HOSPITAL tab or FIGHT LIST tab is, you shouldn’t be here.

***Special note: you should be using Mozilla Firefox, Opera or Google Chrome. Internet Explorer is notoriously SLOW***

1. How the game works:

The use of all Weapons, Armor, Vehicles, and Thugs [at higher levels] (W,A,V,T) depends on how many you own, how many mobsters are in your mob, and what level you are.

Each level allows you the use of 5 additional (W,A,V, T). At level 1 you will have 5, and each time you level up, it will increase by 5. Until you reach level 100, when you will be allowed the maximum of 500 (W,A,V, T). This Maximum number does not include the 8 mobsters in your top mob that can use (W,A,V,T) for you in a fight.

*Unless you purchase extra mobsters from the GODFATHER tab. Also, be aware that you can only use the additional “hitman” once you reach level 100. Don’t waste your "GODFATHER POINTS" on this until then.* I.E. at level 100-102+ you can use 508 (W,A,V,T) or more if you have purchased additional “HITMEN”.

This is only possible if you have the required number of MOBSTERS in your mob. At level 1 you should have at least 5. Each level up that number increases by 5, so at level 100 you will need at least 500. *You would be best off to reach 500 as soon as possible. Not only will more mobsters allow you to level up at your leisure, but also there are missions that allow you special items that require a certain number of mobsters. Also, the highest achievement award will be granted when you reach 1000 mobsters. But there is no reason to stop adding people to your mob!*

Most (W,A,V,T) require upkeep $$$. In order to make money you must have property. The purchase of property is essential. It will make you money to buy more property and (W,A,V,T) *It also directly correlates to how much it costs someone to place a “hit” on you. Your bounty level is always 10 times your gross hourly income. So in order to cost $1billion to hitlist, you must make $100,000 an hour gross. (This is BEFORE your “upkeep” is taken out of your hourly pay.)

PROPERTY: Unless you are a very low level, just starting out with limited cash flow…It is best to buy property in 10’s. If you buy it one at a time, it will cost you more in the long run as the price goes up for land after each purchase. You can never buy more than 10 of any property at a time.

PROPERTY CALCULATOR:

FIGHTING:
Your attack value is calculated by multiplying your (W,A,V,T) attack values by the number allowed by your current level. This number can be bolstered by upgrade points used to increase your attack, defense, or other upgrades (see below). Your defense is calculated the same way. How you win fights is determined by these two values calculated against the values of the Mobster you are fighting. (Attack value for when you attack, defense value for when you’re being attacked).

Special weapons and vehicles may give you a marginal edge, but that is it. The same can be said for additional mobsters purchased from the GODFATHER TAB. Do not rely on these two things for wins (unless you have lots of REAL cash to spend on buying GOD FATHER Points to buy hitmen). Choose your target wisely, and use your upgrade points wisely.

*It is also worth noting that when attacking a mobster, the game will use your highest attack valued (W,A,V,T). When being attacked, the game will use your highest defense valued (W,A,V,T).

The Rivalry list:
This feature shows you the people that attacked you and won. Not the people that hitlisted you or punched you. Here you can attack lower level mobsters ONLY if they attacked you and won. You can attack them back only the amount of times they attacked you and won. This only applies to mobsters that are too low to attack on a normal basis.

Example: If you are level 75 and get attacked by a level 30 and lose 5 times, you can go to your list and attack that level 30 five times only. They have to attack and win again for you to be able to re-attack them. This list shows all ranks that attacked you. if the person is the same or higher rank. The normal rules apply. Attack at will.

HOW TO DEAL MASSIVE DAMAGE:
Make every attack count. The whole key behind this is health. The higher your health, the better chance you have of dealing mass damage. In essence, the amount of damage is correlative to the amount of health you have and the amount of health the person you are attacking or being attacked by has.

If one of the parties, or both of the parties has 100 health as a max, than the total amount of damage dealt will always be 29. ex: 7-22,0-29, 1-28, 14-15, the total number will always be 29. There is a complex formula that goes to the rest that I dare not try to explain.

However say you have 150 health and your opponent has 150 you will see damage in the 50-65 range. ex: 35-15, 12-42,... If there is a total of 500 health combined you will begin to see damage in the range of 70-90,such as 82-7 or 44-45 and all things in between. If you have the better arsenal and are winning this could be a 1 hit ice if they have 70 health they are not safe from death on attack or defense.

Another thing you will notice as you begin to increase your health is that you will be in the hospital at a higher amount of health. For ex: If you have 360 health you can be in the hospital with as high as 72 health! At first glance you may think this sucks, but if you have the income to pay for your health it's awesome. Someone will have to actually place73+ damage on you to kill you without being on the hitlist...very difficult to do.

Finally, you will find that the higher your base health is, the more Experience points you gain when you win a fight. This is VERY apparent when you win a “close” fight.

2. Leveling up:
You gain experience points each time you complete a mission. You also gain points by winning fights and by claiming the daily Top Mobster reward (Use this link to the Top Mob tool to gain more Cash). The “MY MOBSTER” tab will tell you exactly how many points you have to gain before you level up.

It is always best to level up slowly. Having a higher-level DOES NOT make you stronger, in fact if you level to high too fast, you can be very weak. Being a weak character for your level makes you a HUGE target. If you have too few mobsters in your mob or if you do not have the maximum number of (W,A,V,T) owned under EQUIPMENT, you can be beaten in a fight easily. TAKE YOUR TIME!!!

It is best to bounty hunt EARLY. This will allow you to purchase all the (W,A,V,T) you need and have plenty to spend on property. DO NOT exceed your income with your upkeep. A negative cash flow is usually one of the WORST things you can do.

There are ideal level ranges for certain goals. One of those is that of BOUNTY HUNTING: You will have MANY MANY targets on the HITLIST if you're below a certain level. Some would say the “magic range” is between levels 15-70.

3. Upgrades:
Each time you level up, you will be awarded 3 upgrade points. It is imperative that you use these wisely. You DO NOT need ANY ENERGY AT ALL; Top Mobster has made it so that you may stock up unlimited energy for any mission you can possibly do. DO NOT PUT POINTS IN ENERGY. Focus on useful things like ATTACK, DEFENSE, STAMINA, or HEALTH. What you need to upgrade is dependent on exactly what kind of mobster you want to build.

Read through the facts and decide for yourself. Remember: If you are unsure – ASK. You do not get points back, ever.

SKILL POINTS:
In the very beginning of a new game (beta or otherwise) choose if you want to be a defensive mobster, which is great for leveling as you will win most fights, or an offensive mobster, which will also be good for you but mostly to gain money by bounty hunting and by beating people on the fightlist. Both have their downside though. If you choose to be an attacker, you will lose most fights that you do not start. As a defensive mobster, you will not be able to fight on the fightlist or the hitlist without expecting many losses added to your total.

Hunters: 2 attack, 1 health (throw in points to stamina every now and again…around level 50 you should be somewhere at like 15 stamina, higher levels over 200 your goal is 50-ish stamina)

Riders: 2 defense, 1 health

***It should also be noted that the best "class" of mobster is usually MOGUL.***

CHAPTER TWO: Intermediate Strategies

1. ID numbers:

ID numbers are an essential part of success in this game. Whenever you view another mobster’s page, you will find a set of numbers towards the end of the URL box at the top of the browser page. If you use INTERNET EXPLORER, the number will start with 22. If you use Mozilla Firefox, the 22 are not needed, but the rest of the number will remain the same.

This ID number exactly correlates to the MySpace friend ID number that EVERYONE is issued when they sign up. Before you choose a “named” URL, this is the number that is listed on your MySpace page. You can find your ID number many ways. One of the simplest ways is to leave yourself a comment on your page and then click on your comment/mobster name.

You can find a MySpace page or a mobster page by inserting their ID number inthe URL box where it is listed at the end. Make sure you don’t leave any spaces when inserting or copy and pasting an ID number.

- Open mobster URL here
http://profile.myspace.com/Modules/Applications/Pages/Canvas.aspx?appId=104283&appParams={%22show_user_id%22%3A%22*INSERT NUMBER HERE*%22}

- Open MySpace URL here
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=insertnumberhere

2. Bounty Hunting:

One very important reason to level up slowly is to catch as many bounties as possible. You can only attack a mobster that is a lower level than you from your rival list, so once you level up, it is not possible to take someone out on the hitlist if they are below you.

Low-level bounty hunting isn’t always lucrative, but it can get you some much-needed extra money early on. You will find that this is a HUGE advantage later on in the game. Not to mention, if you are a strong low-level character, you will be nearly untouchable by the other mobsters who don’t have access to this information.

******************************************************

BOUNTY HUNTING: a guide

The trick to bounty hunting is to be quick and knowing where to have you mouse cursor waiting.

Click on the bounty list / hit list. Usually you will have to start clicking the “Hitlist” button to get new bounties to come up.

As you click the “Hitlist” button on the right of the screen, start moving your mouse cursor down and towards where the attack button will appear if there is a fresh bounty.

Don’t click the “Hitlist” button repeatedly or too quickly. If you do this you will miss the bounty. Click “Hitlist” once and move down to attack, every time. If no targets come up, just repeat. It will work eventually. This is a game of patience and persistence.

Be quick about clicking attack; however, be aware of high-level people who do nothing but ride the hitlist in order to get attacked. Levels 400 and above are usually one of these. Very quickly they will reach level 500 and up. You can check the “Made Men” tab to see some of the names you will want to avoid attacking. They will almost always beat you in the fight and are very hard to kill. They will level up and you will get a loss. This does not help you at all. If you see a name that is on for more than a few seconds, you should probably start ignoring it. If they were touchable they would already be dead.***UNLESS you are a VERY strong, high-level character***

You don’t have to win a fight to collect a bounty. The person that has been hitlisted is being attacked at the same time by dozens if not hundreds of people. All you have to do is be the person that deals the final blow. Even if you only deal 2 or 3 damage and take much more yourself, you can collect the bounty. *You can only attack someone of equal or higher level than you, so expect to lose the majority of fights on the hitlist.*

In the past, a good bounty was usually around$300-800 Million. Now there are much higher standards. Most Mobsters out there have at least a $2 Billion bounty.

If you ever get a $10 Billion+ bounty…brag about it. They can be very rare if you are new to hunting.

Different browsers have different latency to the server, the order from fastest to slowest are: Opera > Mozilla Firefox > Google Chrome > Internet Explorer. AND… use this site:>>>
http://www.playdom.com/games/mobsters/myspaceid
The reason for using this site is that it loads faster than linking from MySpace. So when you refresh the hitlist, it will shave off a few fractions of a second due to using less physical memory on your computer. It will allow you to hitlist, fight, hospital, bank, and view your stats. If you click on someone else’s page or want to do missions, you will need to load the FULL MOBSTERS app page from MySpace.

Have fun!

3. Avoiding the “LEVEL UP”

You can avoid leveling up by DYING. Every time you die, you lose MANY experience points, thus keeping you from gaining the necessary points to reach the next level. You can do this by being put on the HITLIST, attacking someone with a high-level and losing until you die, or various other means which are too numerous to list. This is absolutely essential if you want to remain at a PARTICULAR level. Some people out there choose to stay at level 1-5. I will be inserting the guide to being a “level one hitman” here soon.

You can avoid leveling by not doing missions. At strategic times, you will need to do missions, but once you have maxed out on (W,A,V,T) for your level, you need to stop missions. Focus on checking the HIT LIST so you can claim bounties. Or check the FIGHT LIST and attack those mobsters that are not strong for their level (someone with very few members in their mob). If you attack someone that is weak, you will likely gain little to none experience points. This will gain you some extra money, but more importantly it will get you a WIN without leveling up too fast.

-If you attack mobsters with less than the minimum required mobsters in their mob for their level, you will likely deal MUCH MORE damage than they can deal to you.

*SPECIAL NOTE: The GODFATHER has updated the game so that this strategy is more difficult. The fight list will usually load with mobsters that are in a similar strength situation to you.*

4. TRANSFERS

A definite way to build your low level character up faster is do conduct transfers. This can be done in many ways. The easiest for you is to have someone who already has a “dummy” mobster set up. The principal is this:

You will know when the target is being put on the HITLIST. Load the target page and when the person setting the bounty tells you, click attack as fast as you can. This will give you a SERIOUS advantage in catching the bounty over other players looking for it on the HITLIST.

This strategy can be used to Transfer money to yourself if you have multiple accounts and are fast with the mouse. *Remember: you can load a page with one mobster, and then from another tab, log off and log into another mobster so you can list one target with one of your accounts and kill it with another at the same time. Practice is helpful.*

Whether you are doing a “transfer” or fighting a war. This strategy can help keep the money in the family. USE IT!

CHAPTER THREE: Advanced Strategies

1. Information gathering:

FOLLOWING INFORMATION TRAILS on Mobster pages:

Everyone in the game leaves a trail when they post comments. You can follow which mobsters are associated and whom they are associated with by viewing their page and watching for “TAGS.”

TAGS are when someone leaves a protection or warning comment on another mobster’s page. You can easily see whom someone Friends or Enemies are by watching the traffic on their page.

IT IS IMPERATIVE that you do NOT erase any threat tags until someone else has seen it AND you have copied and saved to a Paint JPEG. In order to make a “screen-shot” you will need to have the comment in question in the middle of the view screen. Open a Microsoft Paint (Program) and go back to the mobster page. Press Ctrl and Print Scrn. (This will copy the viewable area of the mobster page.) Click on the Paint program, and press Ctrl and V. This will paste the copied page so that you will have “proof” of a comment left on a mobster page. Also, you will need to keep a clear record of that mobster to include: their name, their id number, and what mob they are associated with. If you can keep this information safe, you can pass it to a RANKING OFFICER who will then compile a file on that mobster and their family. WE MUST BEGIN KEEPING INFORMATION. IT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT WE LEARN FROM OUR CONFLICTS.

There are SOME organized families that do not leave protections tags on their member’s pages for this reason. If ALL communication is held away from the MOBSTERS GAME, such as in an organized HQ like our own or on Yahoo Instant Messenger; an organized mob can operate/communicate in a very “clandestine” way.

- There are some mobs that even operate using full headsets. They communicate fully through an audio service such as Ventrillo. This has its advantages and we may be making this change in the future.

1. B. CHECKING MySpace pages:

You can use the ID number of a mobster to check their MySpace page. This can be very helpful when checking up on their “Crew.” Most often they will have some if not all of their crew members in their top friends. Even if this is not the case, you can check all their friends unless their page is set to private.

Simply copy the id number, start a fresh tab or web page, type: www.myspace.com/ then paste the id number. It will pull up the persons myspace page.

2. GUARDING YOURSELF AGAINST SPIES:

Having read the information on INFORMATION GATHERING, you know how others will attempt to gather information on you and your family members.

So, watch what you say on comment boards. Don’t put everyone in your TOP FRIENDS. You can find them quickly by putting your friends into categories.Make the category so that ONLY YOU can view it. Or at least so that only people IN the category can view it. It is also a good idea to make your MySpace page private so that non-friends cannot see anything. But that is up to you…

Use the family HQ wisely. It is there for a reason. Also, add YIM (Yahoo Instant Messenger). As officers I expect you all to do this and add each other and the HIGH COUNCIL. We need to be able to contact you in a pinch.
